Here is the eighth -Coaching Tip- to help you continue to develop your coaching skills.

Coaching Tip #8-The End?-or Beginning?

The title of Step #8 is "Don't give up."  When we ask participants what they think that means, we get answers like follow up, check progress, and keep at it.  These are all true-but incomplete.  It also means be persistent because you care about helping this person be successful (their success is your success).  As much as anything, it means that you have made a commitment to help them become successful.  You will continue to press for improvement in a caring and empowering way.  You will hold both them and yourself accountable for progress.  You will demonstrate to them that you are committed to making them successful.

In another great illustration that we learn when we teach, I recently had a participant tell me that Step #8 was the beginning of the coaching process.  When I asked what she meant, she said "Because if you aren't willing to make this commitment you should not start the coaching process in the first place".  Step #8 is where the coaching process begins for the coach.

She was right.  Step #8 (Don't Give Up) is where the coach makes a commitment to form a partnership for a competitive edge.  If I can help you in anyway, please call.

Remember Step #8 (Don't Give Up)
